Conduent Transportation Extends Partnership with Bay Area Toll Authority

Conduent Transportation, a leading global provider of transportation solutions, has secured a significant five-and-a-half-year contract renewal with the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA). This extension, announced on February 23, 2022, continues Conduent’s nearly two-decade-long partnership with BATA, ensuring their support until September 2027. The contract, valued at approximately $286 million, underscores Conduent Transportation’s pivotal role in managing automated tolling transactions across seven state-owned bridges in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

This renewal is a testament to Conduent Transportation’s expertise and reliability in the tolling industry. Beyond transaction processing, Conduent Transportation also delivers crucial customer service for motorists utilizing BATA facilities. Their services encompass processing FasTrak® parking charges at San Francisco International Airport and managing tolls on the region’s Express Lanes. This comprehensive service portfolio solidifies Conduent Transportation as a key partner in BATA’s operations.

Continued Growth for Conduent Transportation in Road Usage Charging

The contract extension with BATA is part of a series of recent successes for Conduent Transportation in the tolling sector, both in the U.S. and the UK. These wins highlight the company’s ongoing global growth and its enhanced capabilities in the increasingly important field of road usage charging. As urban areas seek to optimize traffic flow and infrastructure, Conduent Transportation’s advanced solutions are proving to be invaluable.

Andrew B. Fremier, Deputy Executive Director, Operations at BATA, emphasized the significance of this continued collaboration. “Conduent has been an important part of our team in our work to expand cashless tolling in the region, benefiting both motorists and the environment,” he stated. “We’re pleased to continue our partnership into the future as we enhance customer service and the traveling experience for hundreds of thousands of motorists across the region.” This endorsement from a key client like BATA further strengthens Conduent Transportation’s reputation and market position.

Supporting BATA’s Transition to All-Electronic Tolling

The renewal comes on the heels of BATA’s successful transition to all-electronic tolling in 2021. This move towards cashless systems is designed to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce vehicle emissions, and enhance convenience for drivers. Conduent Transportation played a crucial role in supporting this transition, demonstrating agility and commitment even amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To ensure seamless customer service during this significant shift, Conduent Transportation tripled its San Francisco-based workforce dedicated to BATA and established a new customer service facility in Bakersfield, California. This expansion reflects Conduent’s dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its clients and their customers. Currently, Conduent Transportation employs over 450 individuals in California to specifically support BATA’s operations, showcasing the scale of their commitment.

Conduent: A Leader in Modern Transportation Solutions

Mark Brewer, President, Transportation Solutions at Conduent, expressed his enthusiasm about the renewed partnership. “As an industry leader in automated tolling, we’re honored to extend our relationship of nearly 20 years with BATA and the Golden Gate Bridge, providing the agency and its users with the latest technologies and enhanced customer service,” said Brewer. “This renewal exemplifies our close partnership with BATA to focus on the FasTrak community, and it reflects our client-centered approach and global growth strategy to deliver all-electronic tolling and other modern transportation solutions that pave the way for smart cities. These initiatives benefit the environment and create improved driving experiences for millions of motorists.”

Conduent Transportation’s leadership in the tolling industry is further evidenced by their operation of six of the ten largest toll systems in the United States. Their extensive portfolio includes major systems in California, Florida, New Jersey, and New York. Recently, Conduent Transportation secured three 8-year contract renewals from tolling authorities in New York, extending their almost 30-year support in that state. They are also actively involved in modernizing the Ohio Turnpike’s toll collection system and were selected by the Virginia Department of Transportation to implement express tolling lanes on Interstate 64 in the Hampton Roads region. Expanding its global footprint, Conduent Transportation also announced a road usage charging contract with National Highways in the United Kingdom and Europe in May 2021.
