President Donald Trump has announced his nomination of Sean Duffy, former Wisconsin Congressman and reality TV personality, as the next Transportation Secretary. Duffy, a prominent defender of Trump on cable news, spent nearly nine years in the House of Representatives, serving on the Financial Services Committee and chairing the subcommittee on insurance and housing. He departed Congress in 2019 and currently co-hosts “The Bottom Line” on Fox Business.
Trump, in his official statement, emphasized Duffy’s media connections and family ties, noting he is “the husband of a wonderful woman, Rachel Campos-Duffy, a STAR on Fox News.” Fox News Media has acknowledged Duffy’s departure and wished him well in his return to Washington. Duffy’s nomination follows closely on the heels of Trump’s selection of Fox News host Pete Hegseth as defense secretary, further cementing the trend of media figures transitioning into high-level government roles under the Trump administration.

Duffy’s background extends beyond politics and media. Prior to his congressional career, he gained public recognition as a reality TV star, appearing on MTV’s “The Real World: Boston” in 1997 and later meeting his wife on “Road Rules: All Stars” in 1998. This unconventional path to political prominence mirrors Trump’s own trajectory, who also transitioned from reality television fame to the presidency. Before entering reality TV, Duffy was a lumberjack athlete and later served as a special prosecutor and Ashland County district attorney. He entered Congress during the Tea Party wave of 2010, campaigning as an outsider with a distinctive “lumberjack” persona.
The Department of Transportation, which Duffy is nominated to lead, plays a critical role in overseeing the nation’s vast transportation network.
