Lynden Transport Drivers to Deliver Capitol Christmas Tree Again

Lynden Transport is once again entrusted with a special holiday mission: delivering the Capitol Christmas Tree from the Alaskan wilderness to Washington, D.C. For the second time in almost a decade, and mirroring their pivotal role in 2015, veteran Lynden Transport drivers are set to undertake this significant journey. John Schank, the very driver who steered the festive cargo nearly ten years ago, will once again be behind the wheel, accompanied by fellow experienced driver Fred Austin. This year’s tree, a gift from the Tongass National Forest in partnership with the Society of American Foresters, will travel from the heart of Alaska to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, thanks to the expertise of Lynden Transport and its acclaimed drivers.

The journey will commence with sister company Alaska Marine Lines transporting the tree via its Southeast Alaska barge service to Seattle. From there, Lynden Transport will take over, embarking on a nationwide truck tour punctuated with community stops en route to Washington, D.C. This intricate logistical undertaking highlights Lynden’s deep-rooted connection to Alaska and its commitment to national traditions.

“As an Alaska-based company, Lynden’s heritage is intertwined with the very essence of Alaska, much like the majestic Christmas tree sourced from the Tongass National Forest,” stated Lynden Transport President Paul Grimaldi. “We are immensely proud to be selected once again for this prestigious delivery, entrusting the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Tour to our legendary drivers, John Schank and Fred Austin, both stalwarts from our Fairbanks Service Center. Their combined experience, leadership, and infectious enthusiasm make John and Fred the perfect team to ensure a memorable cross-country trip.”

John Schank’s exceptional driving record speaks volumes. Recognized as the Alaska Trucking Association’s (ATA) Driver of the Year in both 2014 and 2017, he has also received commendations from former Alaska Governors for his unparalleled safety record. Having driven over 6 million accident-free miles, including a significant portion on the challenging Dalton Highway, Schank’s expertise is undeniable.

“It was a true honor to transport the Capitol Christmas Tree in 2015, and I am deeply grateful for this повторно opportunity in 2024,” shared John Schank. “The journey was filled with heartwarming encounters, especially with children who believed I was Santa Claus delivering Christmas to the Capitol. Those memories are indelible, and I eagerly anticipate embarking on this year’s journey in early November, carrying another magnificent tree from Alaska to the nation.”
