Moran Transportation Expands Green Fleet with Additional Electric Terminal Truck

Moran Transportation Corporation, a leading Midwestern LTL carrier, is reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability by placing a follow-up order for Orange EV T-Series electric terminal trucks. This strategic investment marks another step for Moran Transportation in reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing operational efficiency at its Chicago facilities. Building upon the successful integration of their first T-Series electric yard spotter purchased last year, Moran Transportation is further embracing electric vehicle technology.

The initial deployment of Orange EV’s electric terminal truck delivered significant results for Moran Transportation, particularly in decreasing energy costs and minimizing environmental impact. Company representatives highlighted that the electric truck operation has led to over 80% reduction in unit energy expenses when compared to diesel counterparts, even with current low diesel prices. This substantial saving underscores the long-term economic and ecological advantages of transitioning to electric vehicles within the transportation sector.

Rob Petzold, Vice President of Moran Transportation Corporation, stated, “We are thrilled at the immediate impact of the new spotter. Our goal is to reduce our dependency on gas/diesel fuel as we grow our business by investing in alternative fuel vehicles.” Petzold further added, “We are very pleased with the functionality and the energy reduction of these new trucks. We hope that we can expand our fleet of electric vehicles as the new technology becomes available.” His comments emphasize Moran Transportation’s proactive approach towards adopting cleaner transportation solutions and their satisfaction with the current electric vehicle performance.

Orange EV’s T-Series terminal truck stands out as the first commercially available heavy-duty, class 8 electric truck of its kind. Moran Transportation is utilizing the standard duty model, which is designed to operate through a full shift and recharge overnight, ensuring seamless integration into their existing operational framework. For fleets with more demanding needs, Orange EV also offers extended duty versions with larger battery packs and flexible charging options.

Mike Saxton, Chief Commercial Officer of Orange EV, commended Moran Transportation for their leadership in promoting sustainable practices within the industry. “We applaud Moran for helping lead the effort to drive higher standards for sustainable operations, financially and environmentally,” said Saxton. “Orange EV’s T-Series pure electric terminal trucks are doing the job at a lower cost of ownership while eliminating diesel and emission.” This partnership underscores the mutual commitment of both companies to advancing environmentally friendly and economically sound transportation solutions.

Moran Transportation Corporation, a growing regional Midwestern LTL carrier, provides next-day LTL services across Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Their extensive network of over 300 trucks, including 16 natural gas vehicles and now expanding electric vehicles, reflects their dedication to both regional service excellence and sustainable operational practices.
