Louis Barnes, son of founder Henry Barnes, continued to steer the company’s direction under Old Dominion’s umbrella until 1980, ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the high standards associated with the Barnes name.
However, the entrepreneurial spirit remained strong within the Barnes family. Louis Barnes, driven by a desire to build anew, embarked on a new venture, founding another trucking company. Expanding its service portfolio, Barnes Transportation Services established Barnes Solutions in 1996, a brokerage firm that manages a significant volume of freight annually. Further diversifying its capabilities, the company launched the Heavy Haul and Specialized Division in 2017 and Barnes Hauling, a dedicated Dump Truck division, in 2020.
