Autumn Transport Woodbury MN Driver Honored as Minnesota Driver of the Year

The Minnesota Trucking Association (MTA) has recognized Jerry Stephens, a dedicated professional truck driver from Autumn Transport, based in Woodbury, MN, as the 2021 Minnesota Driver of the Year. This prestigious accolade was presented at the MTA’s annual Driver of the Year Award Ceremony on January 25, 2022, celebrating excellence in the trucking industry.

John Hausladen, president of the MTA, emphasized the significance of the award, stating, “This award is a great way to honor the best in our industry. Driving safe is no easy task, especially when you take into consideration [the] daily driving conditions like congestion, driver distractions, and the added challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Having over 3.6 million safe driving miles is an outstanding accomplishment. We’re proud to award Jerry for this achievement.” This recognition underscores the critical importance of safety and professionalism in the demanding field of commercial transportation.

Jerry Stephens has been an integral part of the Autumn Transport team in Woodbury, Minnesota, for 16 years. Autumn Transport, a leading bulk commodities carrier, benefits greatly from Jerry’s commitment and expertise. Chris Senty, Safety Director for Autumn Transport, highlighted Jerry’s deep-rooted passion for trucking: “Jerry has been driving with Autumn Transport for 16 years. He comes from a family of truck drivers, and cares about the image of the industry and the responsibility he has been given to drive a truck.” This family legacy and dedication to his profession are key factors in Jerry’s exemplary career.

Driving a 2015 Peterbilt 389, Jerry manages a dedicated route from Marble Hill, GA, to Elizabethtown, KY, hauling a pneumatic tanker filled with ground limestone. This limestone is a crucial component in the production of caulk, demonstrating the vital role truck drivers play in the broader supply chain. “Being a truck driver means the world to me,” Jerry shared. “Not only do I get to do the job I love, but I get to carry on the family tradition.” His words reflect a genuine love for his work and a respect for the traditions of the trucking industry.

The Driver of the Year selection process is rigorous, beginning with monthly nominations from companies throughout 2021. Drivers are evaluated against stringent criteria, including exceptional driving and work records, contributions to highway safety and the industry, and community involvement. From these monthly honorees, a panel of esteemed judges selects the Driver of the Year. The 2021 judging panel included Matthew Marin from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Shelly Meyer representing MnDOT, and Captain Jon Olsen of the Minnesota State Patrol. Their collective expertise ensures that the Driver of the Year award truly represents the pinnacle of driving excellence in Minnesota.
