From Barnes Truck Line to Barnes Transportation Services: A Family Tradition
The Barnes family’s journey in transportation began in 1939 when brothers Henry, Eddie, and Roy Barnes laid the foundation of Barnes Truck Line with just three used tractors. Their commitment and business acumen propelled Barnes Truck Line to prominence, establishing it as a leading trucking entity on the East Coast. By the late 1970s, Barnes Truck Line had grown to operate over 500 tractors, a testament to their success. Ultimately, Barnes Truck Line was acquired by Old Dominion Freight Lines, with Henry’s son, Louis Barnes, continuing to steer the company’s operations until 1980 under the new ownership.

However, the entrepreneurial spirit remained strong within the Barnes family. In a move reflecting his own ambition and industry expertise, Louis Barnes embarked on a new venture, founding his own company. This new operation mirrored the success of its predecessor, rapidly expanding from 18 to over 250 tractors before being sold in 1991. Louis instilled the values of hard work and dedication in his sons – Keith, Scott, and Patrick – who, after gaining experience in both their grandfather’s and father’s businesses, were ready to carry the Barnes legacy forward.
