These three acquired motor carriers bring with them over a decade of operational history and a substantial fleet. Collectively, they contribute 60 tractors, 70 refrigerated trailers – commonly known as “reefer” trailers – and a team of 80 drivers, with 25 of these drivers operating in teams. This acquisition significantly boosts Englander Transportation’s resources and reach within the refrigerated transport sector.
Carl Bumgarner, the owner of Englander Transportation and its sister operation, Fleetmaster Express, highlighted the strategic fit of these acquisitions. “The operational framework of those companies closely matches that of our current refrigerated transportation model,” Bumgarner stated. “We are excited about both the synergies and opportunities that will arise from this union.” This alignment suggests a smooth integration process and enhanced efficiency for Englander Transportation.
Englander Transportation itself has a strong pedigree, originating from the former Englander Transport Inc. (ETI). The company specializes in team-driven refrigerated transportation, particularly focusing on transporting produce from the West Coast back to Virginia and Maryland. This acquisition, finalized in mid-March, results in Englander Transportation now commanding a fleet of nearly 100 tractors and 110 reefer trailers, solidifying its position as a major player in Englander transportation services.
In parallel with Englander Transportation’s expansion, its sister company, Fleetmaster Express, based in Roanoke, VA, continues to operate as a large-scale transportation provider. Fleetmaster Express manages over 300 trucks and 1,300 trailers across 15 terminals, offering a broad spectrum of services including long-haul, regional, local, and dedicated hauling. They also provide freight brokerage, warehousing, and spotting services. Further integrating the acquired entities, Bumgarner confirmed that the freight brokerage division of Triple C will be integrated into Fleetmaster Xpress Logistics, Inc., streamlining operations and leveraging existing expertise.
The previous owners and founders of Transportation Technologies, Triple C Transportation Services, and C&H Logistics – Dennis Cook and Kristy Herman – will remain involved, overseeing terminal operations to ensure a seamless transition and maintain operational continuity. Adding to the management structure, Courtney Greene, a long-term Fleetmaster employee, has been appointed as office manager. Greene will manage administrative processes in conjunction with the administrative headquarters in Roanoke, ensuring cohesive administrative functions across the expanded organization.
Travis Smith, COO for both Englander Transportation and Fleetmaster, expressed enthusiasm for the future. “We are looking forward to a great start with this team as we take our first footsteps of expansion in this industry,” Smith commented. “They are a great group of hardworking people and we are all very excited to have them as a part of the Englander family.” This positive outlook underscores the strategic importance of this acquisition for Englander Transportation and its continued growth in the competitive transportation landscape.
