For faculty and staff at Florida State University (FSU), navigating campus transportation and parking efficiently is crucial. The VRES (Virtual Reserved) parking permit offers an enhanced solution designed to streamline your daily commute and parking experience on campus. This virtual permit provides premium parking privileges and convenience for FSU employees.
Understanding the VRES Virtual Reserved Permit
The VRES permit is specifically tailored for FSU faculty and staff, providing 24/7 parking access to a reserved space on Level 1 of the Spirit Way Garage. Beyond this exclusive access, VRES permit holders can also utilize all Faculty/Staff parking spaces, and Student spaces after 4:30 PM on weekdays and throughout weekends. Additionally, it accommodates short-term parking needs with access to Loading Zones for up to 20 minutes. This comprehensive access makes the VRES permit a highly versatile option within Fsu Transportation services.
Who Can Benefit from the VRES Permit?
Eligibility for the VRES permit is exclusive to current Full-Time Faculty and Staff (A&P or USPS) at FSU. This premium permit is available on a first-come, first-served basis, emphasizing its exclusivity and demand. A significant advantage of the VRES permit is its virtual nature, eliminating the need for physical permits. Once your vehicle’s license plate is registered, your parking authorization is active within the FSU transportation system.
Payroll Deduction and Permit Management
To facilitate easy acquisition, the VRES permit is purchased through payroll deduction. Full-time Faculty and Staff can enroll in a payroll deduction program with payments of $24.17 (12-month Faculty/Staff) or $34.12 (9-month Faculty/Staff) deducted from two paychecks monthly. This convenient payment method ensures continuous permit validity, renewing automatically each year on August 15th, and only ceasing when the employee leaves FSU or chooses not to renew. It’s important to note that OPS employees are not currently eligible for this payroll deduction program. The annual permit fee of $580 is non-refundable.
To enroll, eligible employees need to complete the Authorization for Payroll Deduction Form. Upon submission, a TAPS (Transportation and Parking Services) representative will guide you through the subsequent steps to activate your VRES permit.
Key Features and Important Notes for VRES Permit Holders
The VRES permit allows registration of up to 5 vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.), but it’s crucial to remember that only one vehicle is permitted on campus at any given time under the VRES permit. Each VRES permit includes one gate card for accessing reserved parking areas. Gate clickers are also available for purchase to further enhance access convenience.
Important Considerations:
- OPS Ineligibility: Remember that OPS employees are not eligible for the payroll deduction program for VRES permits.
- Gate Access: A gate card is provided with the permit. Replacement cards incur a $10 fee. Gate clickers are available for $35 each, with replacements costing $20. Payment for clickers via payroll deduction is possible using the Remote Gate Opener Agreement.
- Permit Cancellation and Renewal: Permit cancellation is only permissible upon leaving the University. Otherwise, non-renewal is possible at the start of each permit year (August 15th). To stop payroll deductions upon leaving FSU or choosing not to renew, use the Stop Payroll Deduction Form.
- Return of Access Devices: Gate cards and clickers must be returned upon termination of FSU employment to avoid fines ($30 for clickers, $15 for gate cards).
- Rental Vehicles: VRES permit holders using rental/loaner vehicles can temporarily add the vehicle to their permit and remove it after use.
- Gameday Parking: VRES permit holders must vacate Booster lots during home football game weekends. Refer to the gameday parking map for affected areas.
