Accessing reliable transportation is crucial for seniors to maintain their independence and overall well-being. Bernalillo County offers comprehensive Senior Transport Services designed to meet the needs of residents aged 60 and older. These services prioritize transportation to medical appointments, while also accommodating essential errands and trips to senior meal sites. Ensuring seniors have access to these vital resources is a key focus of Bernalillo County’s community support programs.
Medical Appointment Transportation
Medical appointment transportation is considered a priority service and can be scheduled up to seven days in advance of your appointment. This dedicated service provides rides to medical facilities, including Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho, for Bernalillo County residents. For return trips within the greater Albuquerque area, please ensure to call for a “call when ready” ride by 5 p.m. If you are in the East Mountain/Cedar Crest area, return ride calls must be made by 4 p.m. To arrange transport for medical appointments, please contact us at 505-764-6464.
Meal Site Transportation
Bernalillo County ensures seniors can easily access nutritious meals by offering transportation to various meal sites. Seniors can request daily pick-up from their homes, within a five-mile radius, to all City of Albuquerque senior and multigenerational centers, as well as Bernalillo County meal sites. Expanding the service area slightly, transport is also available within a six-mile radius to Whispering Pines and Tijeras Senior Centers. To take advantage of meal site transportation services, individuals can register directly at their preferred center site.
On-Demand Shared Transportation for Errands
Beyond medical and meal transport, on-demand shared transportation is available for non-medical errands. This service allows seniors to attend to essential tasks such as grocery shopping and other necessary errands. Requests for on-demand errand transport should be scheduled three days in advance. It’s important to note that return rides for errand trips must be scheduled to occur within two hours of the initial pick-up time. To request on-demand transportation for errands, please call 505-764-6464.
Bernalillo County’s commitment to senior transport services ensures that older adults in the community have accessible options for medical care, nutrition, and essential daily tasks.
