Iowa-based flatbed carrier TMC Transportation is significantly boosting its presence in the southeastern United States with a substantial $38 million investment in South Carolina. This strategic move will consolidate the company’s regional operations and create new job opportunities in the area, highlighting the importance of Tmc Transportation Terminal Locations in their growth strategy.
Employee-owned TMC Transportation, a major player in the flatbed trucking industry, has operated in South Carolina for 25 years. The company, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, boasts a widespread network of terminals and service centers across the nation. This new project will centralize TMC’s operations in central South Carolina, bringing together three leased facilities into a single, expansive 44-acre campus situated at 2716 Shop Road in Columbia. This consolidated campus will feature a newly constructed 36,000-square-foot operations and logistics office alongside a 66,000-square-foot maintenance facility, strategically located next to their existing driver training center in Richland County.

TMC Transportation’s commitment to South Carolina underscores the state’s advantageous geographical position. As Governor Henry McMaster pointed out on December 5th, “With two-thirds of the U.S. population within a two-day drive of South Carolina, this is the ideal place for trucking companies to thrive.” He further added, “We look forward to seeing TMC Transportation continue to develop and build on its rich history in South Carolina.”
Jason Webb, TMC’s Executive Vice President of Asset Management, explained the strategic rationale behind consolidating TMC transportation terminal locations into this new campus. Speaking with Transport Topics, Webb emphasized that this move will integrate their existing terminal with key functions including operations, logistics, maintenance, driver training, and asset sales, all within a state-of-the-art facility.
“This consolidation will not only drive efficiencies and enhance coordination and communication within our business operations, but it is also crucial for improving the overall experience for our office employees, drivers, and valued customers,” Webb stated. “This new campus will enable us to centralize our operations to effectively serve customers throughout the Southeast, provide enhanced support for our drivers, expand our industry-leading driver training program, and facilitate the continued growth of our business.”
Webb further highlighted South Carolina’s prime central location and TMC’s established partnership with both Richland County and the state as key factors in this expansion.

With operations at the new campus slated to commence in May 2025, TMC Transportation is actively recruiting for 185 new positions. These roles span across operations and maintenance, encompassing areas such as fleet management, human resources, driver training, safety, IT, customer service, truck maintenance, and logistics. Furthermore, Webb noted, “As we grow our operations in the area, we will also continue to hire drivers in South Carolina, as well as across the eastern half of the U.S., to meet our customers’ needs and expand our business.”
Webb also reflected on the company’s substantial growth since establishing a base in the Columbia area in 1998. “We’re excited about bringing all of our operations into a single location. This will allow us to maintain the best-in-class service our customers expect, support our drivers’ success on the road, and contribute to strengthening the local economy and supply chain,” Webb concluded.
