Parking Citations and Appeals
Understanding parking regulations is crucial for all UCSD commuters and visitors. If you receive a parking citation, it’s important to know your options.
Paying or Appealing Citations
Upon receiving a parking ticket, you have a 21-day period from the issue date to either pay the penalty or submit a written appeal to the Office of Citation Appeals Administration, as per CVC 40215(a). Appeals postmarked on the 21st day are considered timely.
Important Deadlines:
- After 21 days: Citations become delinquent, penalties double, and appeal rights are forfeited.
- After 35 days: The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) places a hold on vehicle registration and adds a $20 fee to the doubled penalty.
Consequences of Unpaid Citations: Accumulating five or more unpaid citations may lead to immediate vehicle immobilization or towing at the owner’s expense.

For questions regarding a specific citation:
- Email: [email protected]
Resolve parking citation matters promptly and efficiently by contacting the relevant department.
