Despite limited knowledge of the trucking sector in the US, Mr. Singh’s determination propelled him forward.
Initially, Mr. Singh obtained his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and gained valuable experience driving long-haul routes for his uncle’s company based in Bakersfield, CA. He specialized in hauling produce, traversing routes from the West Coast to the East Coast. This early experience was crucial in identifying a specialized need within the trucking industry: the careful and timely transportation of perishable goods. Mr. Singh understood that this niche demanded meticulous attention to detail to ensure the integrity of the freight. After immersing himself in the intricacies of the industry and building a solid foundation of knowledge, he took the pivotal step of purchasing his own truck and becoming an owner-operator, marking the first chapter in the history of DTL Transport Inc.
Mr. Singh’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond driving. He observed that many fellow truckers faced challenges with logistics, particularly in communication and load procurement, often stemming from cultural and language differences. Recognizing an opportunity to assist his peers while streamlining operations, he began informally dispatching trucks. His exceptional communication skills bridged gaps and fostered trust, leading to direct customer inquiries. This organic growth spurred Mr. Singh to formalize his dispatching services. He established an office in Fresno, CA, and officially launched Dosanjh Truck Lines, the precursor to DTL Transport Inc. In 2003, the family legacy began to solidify as Mr. Singh’s son, Lakhvir “Lucky” Singh, joined the burgeoning business. While pursuing higher education at a local Fresno college, Lucky contributed to the billing department, gaining foundational knowledge of the company’s financial operations. Mr. Singh envisioned a future where both Lucky and his younger son, Rupinder “Bobby” Dosanjh, would leverage business administration degrees to lead and expand the company. Tragedy struck in 2007 when Mr. Teja Singh unexpectedly passed away during a visit to Punjab, India. Driven by his father’s vision and legacy, Lucky stepped up to ensure the company’s continuation. He streamlined the company name, rebranding it as DTL Transport, operating as DTL Transport Inc, to honor his father’s foundation while steering it into a new chapter.

Under Lucky’s leadership, DTL Transport Inc experienced rapid expansion. To manage the increasing volume, Lucky strategically expanded the team, bringing in Jaspreet Singh. Jaspreet, known as “Jass,” quickly became an indispensable asset, renowned among owner-operators for his expertise in directions and load information. The network of owner-operators affiliated with DTL Transport Inc grew to over 80. Lucky adeptly managed load booking and dispatch operations, focusing on the crucial West Coast to East Coast routes. He entrusted his brother, Bobby, with the challenging task of securing return freight from the East Coast back to the West Coast. Bobby’s success in this demanding aspect of long-haul trucking, coupled with his strong customer relationships, ensured a balanced and efficient operational flow for DTL Transport Inc.
Recognizing the importance of financial stability and trust, DTL Transport Inc prioritized establishing a robust accounting department. Inderjit Singh joined the company, bringing his prior experience as an owner-operator and his accounting acumen. His firsthand understanding of owner-operator needs enabled him to build strong rapport and ensure timely and transparent financial operations, further solidifying the trustworthiness of DTL Transport Inc.
In 2011, Lucky spearheaded a significant evolution for DTL Transport Inc, transitioning it into an asset-based company. This strategic move involved investing in a company fleet, starting with the purchase of brand new, fuel-efficient Kenworth T660 trucks equipped with MX motors and DEF technology, ensuring a clean air certified fleet. This was followed by the acquisition of new 2013 Vans with 2012 Thermo King SB-230 reefer units, achieving California Air Resource Board (CARB) compliance and ARB numbers for operation within California, further reinforcing DTL Transport Inc‘s commitment to environmental responsibility and regulatory adherence.
As DTL Transport Inc continued to grow and onboard more drivers, safety became paramount. Mike Souza joined the team as Safety and Transportation Manager. With a background deeply rooted in the family trucking business and experience as an owner-operator, Mike implemented comprehensive safety policies and procedures.
