Effective immediately, passengers using Kat Transport services will need to pay their fares using Katpay or exact cash when boarding buses. The grace period for paper tickets has now ended, marking a significant shift in fare payment methods for KAT.
For those paying with cash, please note that only exact change is accepted on the bus. The cash fare remains $1.00 for regular fares and $0.50 for discount fares. It’s important to remember that transfers are not included with cash payments, and KAT Customer Service is unable to provide change. Furthermore, day passes or change cards will no longer be issued for cash payments made on board.
Frequent KAT transport users are strongly encouraged to transition to Katpay to take advantage of the most cost-effective fare options, including 1-Day and 30-Day passes. Katpay utilizes fare capping, which means you’ll never be charged beyond the daily or monthly limits. This system ensures you always receive the lowest possible fare, with daily fares capped at $2.00 (or $1.00 for discount fares) and monthly fares capped at $30 (or $15 for discount fares).
Katpay offers flexible usage options. It can be conveniently accessed through the Transit app on your smartphone or obtained as a reloadable card from KAT Customer Service. Adding funds to your Katpay account is easy and can be done at participating retail locations, online, or directly at KAT Customer Service.
Passengers who are eligible for discount fares should contact KAT Customer Service to ensure their discount fare rates are properly applied to their Katpay account.
Key Dates to Keep in Mind:
- January 31, 2025: The final day paper tickets will be accepted on KAT buses.
- February 2, 2025: The deadline to exchange any UNUSED paper tickets or change cards for credit towards your Katpay account at KAT Customer Service.
- May 1, 2025: Last chance to receive a $4.00 credit when you purchase a Katpay card, create an account, and register your card via the Katpay Web Portal, and the last day for a $4.00 credit for new Katpay mobile accounts created in the Transit app. Contact KAT Customer Service to claim your credit.
