Streamlining Public Transport Licensing: Your Guide to the 2025/2026 Period with the Transport Authority

The Transport Authority of Jamaica is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2025/2026 licensing period, designed to facilitate a smooth and efficient process for all public passenger vehicle and commercial carrier operators. Starting Saturday, February 1, 2025, the online portal at www.ta.org.jm will be open for new applications and renewals across various license categories. This initiative underscores the Transport Authority’s commitment to modernizing services and prioritizing convenience for its valued customers.

To ensure timely processing before the March 31, 2025 expiry of current licenses, the Transport Authority has streamlined the application process through its online platform. This digital approach is applicable to a wide range of licenses, including:

  • New and Renewal Contract Carriage, Stage Carriage, and Express Carriage
  • Renewal Hackney Carriages
  • New and Renewal Private and Public Commercial Carriers

Operators of Route Taxis should note that applications for these licenses will be managed via their respective Taxi Associations, also commencing online on February 1st. It is important to highlight that the online platform is not yet available for new Rural Stage and new Hackney Carriage licenses. Please stay tuned for further announcements regarding these categories.

In anticipation of the licensing period, the Transport Authority began conducting motor vehicle examinations on January 6, 2025. This proactive measure is intended to help operators prepare their vehicles and ensure compliance, further expediting the overall license application process. By completing vehicle examinations early, operators can avoid potential delays as the March 31st deadline approaches.

The Transport Authority encourages all public passenger vehicle and commercial carrier operators to leverage the online application system. Alongside the convenience of online applications, the Authority offers various payment options, as all offices are now cashless. Accepted payment methods include VISA debit and credit cards, Paymaster, Bill Express, and bank transfers. For those who may require assistance with the online portal, Online Kiosks are available at Transport Authority office locations, staffed with customer service agents ready to provide support.
